TIPPING
Tipping is appreciated but not mandatory in Goa. At luxury restaurants, a 10% tip on top of the service charge is gracious. Tip hotel staff 100–200 INR per service, taxi drivers 50–100 INR for good service, and spa therapists 200–300 INR. Always tip in cash directly to the individual.
SAFETY
Goa is generally very safe for couples, including foreign visitors. During monsoon, avoid swimming in the sea — waves are extremely powerful and most beaches have no lifeguards on duty in June. Stick to hotel pools for swimming. Avoid isolated areas at night and keep valuables in hotel safes. Drink only bottled or filtered water and be cautious with street food hygiene.
TRANSPORT
Pre-booked hotel transfers and app-based cabs (Rapido, Ola) are the most reliable and safe options. Self-drive scooter or car rentals are available but roads become slippery in the monsoon — exercise caution. Avoid auto-rickshaws for long distances. Your luxury hotel concierge can arrange private car hires for the duration of your stay, which is highly recommended.
ETIQUETTE
Dress modestly when visiting churches, temples, and local villages — cover shoulders and knees. Public displays of affection are acceptable at resort areas but should be toned down in traditional neighborhoods and religious sites. Bargaining is expected at markets but do so respectfully and with good humor. Always ask permission before photographing locals.
